Dubai Frame Guide: See Old and New Dubai in One Visit
The Dubai Frame is one of the easiest ways to understand Dubai in a single visit. The landmark stands in Zabeel Park, right between the historic districts of Old Dubai and the skyline of modern Dubai, and it was designed as a giant picture frame for both. This guide explains what you will see inside, how long a visit takes, the best time to go and how to combine it with other experiences in the city.
What is the Dubai Frame?
The Dubai Frame is a 150-metre-tall structure shaped like a rectangular frame, finished in gold-coloured panels. Two towers are joined at the top by a glass bridge. From one side you look towards Deira, Bur Dubai and the Creek, the older part of the city; from the other side you see Sheikh Zayed Road and the towers of Downtown Dubai. That contrast is the whole idea of the visit: the past and the future of Dubai seen from the same place.
What you will see inside
- The Old Dubai gallery: at ground level, an exhibition about life in Dubai before the oil era, with the pearl-diving and trading traditions of the city.
- The sky deck: a lift takes you to the bridge at the top, where you can walk across the panoramic deck and look down through the glass floor panels.
- The Future Dubai gallery: on the way down, an immersive exhibition imagining how the city could look in the decades ahead.
How long does a visit take?
Most visitors spend between one and one and a half hours inside, including the galleries, the lift and time for photos on the sky deck. If you also want to walk around Zabeel Park, plan a little longer.
Best time to visit
- Late afternoon: go up before sunset to see both sides of the city in daylight and then with the lights coming on.
- Morning: usually quieter, with good light for photos of Old Dubai.
- Season: from October to April the weather is pleasant for combining the visit with time outdoors in the park.
Opening hours and entry conditions are set by the attraction and can change, so we confirm them for your date when you book.
Practical tips
- Bring a valid ID; it may be requested at the entrance.
- If you are not comfortable with heights, you can stay on the solid part of the deck and still enjoy the view.
- Wear comfortable shoes: there is some walking between the galleries and the park.
- Carry water, especially if you plan to walk in Zabeel Park after the visit.
